the benefits at a glance
WHY A GREEN ROOF?

Because roofs can do so much more than hold rain.

A green roof works quietly, every day, for decades — for your roof, your home, your street and everything that buzzes above it. Here's the honest science, minus the jargon.

Longer roof lifespan
Vegetation shields your waterproofing from UV, frost and hail. Sheltered roofing membranes routinely last twice as long — the green pays for itself in postponed renovations.

Rainwater buffering
Substrate and drainage hold a big share of every shower, releasing it slowly. That means less flash runoff, relieved sewers and drier streets during downpours.

Biodiversity
Sedum, herbs and wildflowers turn dead surface into habitat for bees, butterflies and birds — a stepping stone between gardens in built-up Flanders.
Thermal insulation
An extra blanket on the roof: warmer in winter, and your heating works less. The layers add insulation value the day they go down.
−5°C
Summer cooling
Plants evaporate water and shade the surface, so the roof never becomes a frying pan. Rooms under a green roof stay noticeably cooler on hot days.
Noise reduction
Substrate and vegetation absorb sound instead of reflecting it — rain, traffic and aircraft all arrive softer. Bedrooms under green roofs are quieter rooms.
Sustainability
Peat-free substrates, recycled materials and locally grown plants — a roof that gives back more than it took to make. Circular from layer one.
Variation through the seasons
Green roofs surprise you all year round, through the four seasons. A green roof changes colour, different plants come into bloom and some appear later in the year. A festival of colour seen from the bedroom and bathroom window replaces the one-sided look of EPDM or bitumen.

ATTRACT RESIDENTS

Bees and birds come visiting.

Boost biodiversity. Combine green roofs with beehives or birdhouses. It makes the whole thing more functional still — a real piece of nature on your roof.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Good for your street, too.

01Green roofs ease pressure on sewers during heavy rainfall — a growing issue in Belgian towns.
02They counter urban heat islands: more evaporation, less stored heat between buildings.
03Plants capture fine dust and CO₂ and give unused roof surfaces a new, colourful and cooling function.
04Many Belgian municipalities offer green roof subsidies — ask us what applies in yours.
